As the name implies, ceramic coated braces have a porcelain-ceramic material glazed onto the metal brackets, wires, and other key pieces of hardware. The ceramic glaze can be perfectly shaded to match your natural tooth enamel, making it hard for the casual observer to even notice you have braces.

While these braces are rather durable, they still require daily care and cleaning. Should any part of your braces come loose, bend or break, or you develop cavities, it could very well increase the amount of time you need to wear the braces.

Just like your teeth, your braces will need to be brushed twice a day. Once you have thoroughly cleaned in and around the braces, you should then floss your teeth. If you’re having issues cleaning hard to reach places, you might want to try getting interdental brushes, and a floss threader loaded with waxed dental floss.

There are certain foods and activities that could pose a threat to you braces. Chewing gum and eating sticky foods can easily get stuck in the wires and bands causing damage or even breaking something loose. This also goes for crunching down on hard foods, hard candy or chewing on things like pens, pencils and ice.

Cutting back on dark foods and beverages might also be worthy of consideration. Your natural tooth enamel will stain faster and deeper than the ceramic material coating the braces. If your teeth become stained, they might not perfectly match the shade of the ceramic coating.

If you do want to enjoy dark beverages, you might want to dry drinking these beverages through a straw, or brushing your teeth shortly after consuming them. You should also beware of the deep staining potential from tobacco use.
