As your teeth shift and move, it’s very important to take care of them as much as possible. Smile care is vital, especially during orthodontic treatment. So, if you’re interested in keeping your oral health in tip-top shape while you work toward your dream smile, our Skyline Orthodontics team is here to help you! We recommend doing the following things for optimal results:
Keep up on oral hygiene
It’s best to brush and floss your teeth often, especially after you’ve eaten a meal or snack. Brushing and flossing will help eliminate the food particles and plaque that tend to cling to the crevices of your smile. If you don’t remove these substances on a regular basis, your smile can become victim to tooth decay, enamel stains, and gum disease.
Avoid certain foods
There are many foods we recommend you avoid, like sugary and starchy foods because they can promote tooth decay and other dental issues. We also ask that you avoid eating chewy and sticky foods, like caramel and taffy, because they can easily break your braces.
Wear a mouthguard
If you are an athlete, please wear a mouthguard while you play sports. This is important because the mouthguard will protect your smile and appliance when hard, forceful objects hit them. Wearing a mouthguard will reduce your chances of injuring your smile and bite.
