While you have braces, it’s best to brush your teeth as much as possible. But, we understand that brushing might be a little difficult with braces, which is why we’ve written this blog for you! Brushing is a beneficial and successful task that should be done at least twice a day. If possible, brush your teeth after each meal and every snack. Doing so will not only clean your braces, but it will also eliminate the embarrassing food-filled smile moments!

Now, to help you properly brush your smile, we proudly offer these instructions:

Prepare to brush: Take the removable parts of your appliance, like the elastics and retainers, out of your mouth. This will give you more room to brush.

Clean your braces: Use your brush to deeply clean the wires, brackets, and pins of your braces. This will help free the food particles that are stuck in the areas you cannot see.

Brush your teeth: Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and clean each tooth individually. Place the brush over the top section of your tooth, the part that lies between the wire and gums, and brush in a circular motion for about 10 seconds. Then, clean the other areas of the tooth this exact way. Repeat this process with each tooth.

We also strongly recommend flossing and rinsing your smile at least once a day. Flossing and rinsing will give you the strong and healthy smile you deserve, and it will also help prevent major dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease. If you need specific instructions on flossing and rinsing, please feel free to ask your orthodontist during your next appointment.
