Braces are strong, reliable appliances that change and shift your smile over time. Even though the braces can do these things, they can also be damaged very easily. One of the ways the braces can be damaged is by eating the following treats:
Because caramel is so sticky, it is extremely dangerous for your appliance as well as for your smile. When you eat caramel, the product sticks to your teeth, gums, and braces and it is extremely difficult to remove. Now, because this treat is so difficult to clean, it’s nearly impossible to remove every bit from your smile, therefore causing tooth decay. Dental cavities are a serious problem in the world today, and we need you to avoid them at all costs.
Salt Water Taffy
Salt water taffy is dangerous for the same reasons caramel is dangerous. It can easily stick to your smile, break your brackets, and create tooth decay. So, we strongly recommend that you avoid eating salt water taffy until you get your braces off.
Popcorn is damaging to your braces because the kernels can easily shift or break your brackets when you chomp on them. This can cause major discomfort and it can create further complications, resulting in the delay of your orthodontic treatment. So, no matter the flavor of the popcorn, it’s best to avoid eating this treat.
Now, we know there are times when you will strongly desire these sweets, but we ask that you do not give into temptation and you continue to take good care of your braces. Just remember that this is only temporary and you can eat these treats once you get your braces off.
